Mississippi SATP US History (Chronological Version)

January 5th, 2009 Jay Eckard

Due to popular demand from our Mississippi social studies teachers, we have added a second version of our US History SATP review.  The new version has the same content found on the US History test, but this version is organized chronologically to allow a greater integration into unit-taught curriculum.

The best part is that we are providing this new version at no additional or future costs.  It is an integral part of your US History SATP subscription. We simply want to make it as valuable as possible for you and your students.

Record Site Use

December 9th, 2008 Jay Eckard

Last Friday we set a new personal record for site use.  We hit a max of 26 MB/s of site use. This is approximately twice the bandwidth from last Spring.  This is the result of subscriber growth and increased site use nearing the end of the semester.

The good news is that the servers performed very well.  Site speed remained quick and responsive.  We monitor the servers closely and will always invest our resources to keep your online experience efficient.

Retry Missed Questions Bug

December 9th, 2008 Jay Eckard

Today, we discovered a small problem with our tutorial questions that is only noticed by subscribers using Internet Explorer 6.0.  Students may be caught in a loop of questions if they attempt to “retry missed questions”. If you are able to upgrade your version of IE to 7.0, this should resolve this problem. However, if not, we will continue to work hard on this problem and have it corrected soon.

New Account Stats Feature

November 24th, 2008 Jay Eckard

Many subscribers have requested a way to view logins for each subscription by test.  In response, we have created a more accurate method for determining test-specific site usage.  The Account Details link located off your logged-in home page now displays a “Usage by Test” section.

This data is compiled and displayed separately for each test. We hope that this will give teachers and administrators a good “at a glance” view of site usage. Here are the values attributed to each type of site usage:

  • Test - 3pts
  • Student Email Subscription - 3pts
  • Game - 2pts
  • Matching Activity - 2pts
  • Tutorial Question Set - 1pt
  • Quiz - 1pt
  • Vocabulary Set - 1pt

Did You Know?

November 18th, 2008 Joe

If you have an ActivBoard in your room, you can use your board and USATestprep in a variety of ways. If you’re interested in doing a class diagnostic quiz, simply hand out the clickers and go to the Question Activity of your choosing. Pull up each of the questions, one at a time. For each question, have the students answer with the clicker. Then, when all have selected an answer, look up the stats on the question and paste them to the screen. Finally, choose the most common answer on the website, using the ActivBoard, and read the explanation. Or, have a student do this last part. Move on to the next question.

If you’re really feeling adventurous, make a flip chart of your own. For each item, cut and paste the question and explanation page onto separate pages and take your class through the whole thing. You can then track their answers at the end of the session.

Don’t forget that the students really enjoy playing the games in a class-wide mode, and they’re all standards-based!

Algebra I EOCEP Review Based on New Standards

October 24th, 2008 Joe

The South Carolina State Department of Education recently released revised Core Area Academic Standards for the Algebra I/Math for Technologies II EOCEP. We have worked hard to develop a new review for this test from the ground up that meets these new standards. We have spent much time reviewing old questions and authoring new ones to ensure that your students have the best possible online, review resource for this challenging, new test.

For now, we will be leaving the old test in place for any students that did not pass based on the old standards. You will find this on the test pull-down menu as Algebra I (2002). You will find all of the same great features in place for this test review. If you are not currently subscribed to this review and would like to add it, please contact us by phone or email. We can have access available within 24 hours. We can also provide you with a pro-rated price, so all of your expiration dates match.

Let us know if you have any questions.

Catch the Naughty, Diploma-Stealing Chicken

October 23rd, 2008 Jay Eckard

We are proud to announce a new, educational game for students. This is our first implementation of a single content area game and acarde-style bonus game.

Here is the game description:

”The naughty chicken has stolen your diploma again! Answer seven questions correctly to catch him! You gain points for each correct answer and lose points for each miss. You can really rack up points during the bonus round.”

We author our games to be fun AND educational for students.

Uber Data Search

October 23rd, 2008 Jay Eckard

We consolidated and upgraded our data searching and reporting features. You may now query by student, teacher, or test to find student results. You can find this new feature under “Student Data” in the Teacher Resources section. We feel the new system will make data harvesting much easier for teachers, counselors, and administrators.
